YouTube Responsible

My thought on Google being responsible to track the posting of copyrighted content is that YouTube is their site and therefore they are responsible for policing it. I feel that policing such a popular site is near impossible.
So, the bottom line to me is that they are responsible for removing and preventing copyrighted videos on YouTube. They are not liable for people posting them. If there is an illegal posting of copyrighted material than YouTube/ Google should have a way to know who that person/ group is. The only time that persons or group information is accessed is for legal purposes.
For the copyrighted content that is posted, the person or group who posted it should be fully liable for their actions. Who accessed the illegal video, how many people accessed the illegal video, and the peoples personal information who accessed it is completely irrelevant. The only thing relevant in this case is who posted the copyrighted videos and how can YouTube/ Google prevent copyright law infractions.
In regards to my and other user information being handed over to Viacom (BLEEP), upsets me greatly. They (Viacom) have no right to people’s information unless they are directly involved in committing a crime.
